A brief history of California as a whole shows that in recent decades, the state has been at the forefront of efforts to reform cannabis laws, beginning in 1972 with the nation’s first ballot initiative attempting to legalize cannabis. Although Proposition 19 was unsuccessful, California would later become the first state to legalize medical cannabis with the passage of the Compassionate Use Act of 1996 (Proposition 215). In November 2016, California voters approved the Adult Use of Marijuana Act (Proposition 64) to legalize the recreational use of cannabis.

Years in the making, Lowell’s Director of Procurement Lindsay MacEwan shares, “Having a hand in creating and developing the Origin Collection is a dream come true. The goal of the collection is to highlight the superiority and diversity of cannabis growing in California and celebrate the passing of SB67.”

Spotlighting the Emerald Triangle with three distinct strains from each county within the region—Humboldt, Trinity, and Mendocino. These carefully curated farms have been cultivating Emerald Triangle land for generations beyond California’s ever changing political landscape around cannabis. Stewards of the land, each farmer is dedicated to regenerative, sustainable, and innovative growing techniques that result in craft cannabis of the highest quality. On the heels of California Senate Bill 67, which establishes standards for cannabis cultivators to designate a county of origin, Lowell Herb Co. aims to highlight the distinctive cannabis producing regions of California. Just as Napa Valley is recognized for the unique soil and climate that contribute to its renowned wine, county of origin allows the industry to recognize the distinctive qualities that produce exceptional California cannabis.

Being a family farm operated for two generations, Sweet Sisters Family Farm can assure that their farming methods are sustainable and work with the environment. To achieve this they employ organic practices, building the health of the soil and running the entire farmstead on solar power. As a multi-generational farm nestled in a sun-drenched meadow amongst Mendocino County’s redwoods, the farm has been operating off the grid, producing high-quality, sun-grown cannabis for nearly 40 years.

By employing sustainable practices, building multi-generational sustainability cycles, and running their entire farmstead on solar power, Sweet Sisters works in harmony with the land.
