Tom’s global presentation for New Zealand was a piece happy. He had been added to the group’s T20I crew in January 2017 after their standard wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi had supported a physical issue.

On January 8, 2017, he had made his T20I debut, in a match against Bangladesh.

It was a fantasy start to the year for him, as only one day before this introduction, he had been a piece of the Wellington Firebirds group that had crushed Central Stags by 14 hurries to win the Super Smash (New Zealand’s chief homegrown T20 rivalry) for simply the second time.

He had made his Test match debut for New Zealand in December 2017. In that game, against the West Indies, he had scored 107 runs not out in the group’s first innings.

This was the then most elevated score recorded by a New Zealand wicketkeeper on test match debut. This was likewise the principal example of a wicketkeeper scoring 100 on test match debut since Matt Prior in 2007.

It was just the second time in history that such an excusal had been recorded in a top notch match in New Zealand.

The primary case was in the 1954-55 homegrown season, in a match among Canterbury and Central Districts.
