They’re such a great way to earn a lot of money fast, because the sell price for them is just so high! Especially with the Gemologist perk, it’s really easy to make a living off gems alone. Some gems can be found lying on the ground, but most minerals are found by processing Geodes at Clint’s blacksmith shop. What should you be chasing for your own little gem gold rush? Here’s a handy dandy guide to the highest selling ones!
10. Ruby
Sell Price: 250g Rubies are a beautiful red gemstone often used in jewelry like necklaces and rings. In Stardew Valley, they can be found in lots of places – Ruby Nodes, Gem Nodes, from Panning, in the Garbage Can, in Fishing Treasure Chests, as a gift from the Feast of the Winter Star, and of course, just lying on the ground in the mines. It’s a loved gift of Clint, Dwarf, and Emily, and can be used to forge weapons too.
9. Tigerseye
Sell Price: 275g Tigerseyes are a mineral that get their name from their appearance – with a darker outside, warmer orange middle, and yellow center, they resemble tigers’ eyes. This mineral can be gleaned from either a magma geode or an omni geode, meaning you’re going to need to make it pretty deep into the mines before you can find this bad boy. It’s a loved gift of Sam, and like everything else, it can be donated to the museum to add to the count toward reward items.
8. Bixite
Sell Price: 300g Bixite is a dark metallic mineral with a shape like a cube, and can be found from processing Magma Geodes, Omni Geodes, or by defeating Black Slimes. With the Gemologist perk, this neat mineral sells for 390g each. They’re really neat, although they don’t have too many uses besides selling, since they’re not a preferred gift for any of the villagers.
7. Dolomite
Sell Price: 300g Just like Bixite, Dolomites sell for 300g, or for 390g if the farmer has the Gemologist perk. Dolomites are gems that are traditionally found underwater, and can occur near underwater volcanoes on coral reefs. They’re beautiful looking minerals, with sharp clusters of pink spikes growing out of gray solid matter. And they can be found in Stardew Valley from having Clint process Omni Geodes or Magma Geodes.
6. Fire Opals
Sell Price: 350g Fire Opals are an absolutely gorgeous gemstone, and they’re rare. They have flecks of red in a dark mineral deposit, making them a lovely thing to put in jewelry. With the gemologist perk, they sell for 455g, making them a very profitable find. They can be found by processing Magma Geodes or Omni Geodes, which means that you’ll need to make it far into the Mines before you can find this beautiful stone. Note that they’re not a loved gift of anyone, and like all minerals, they’re disliked by everyone except the Wizard.
5. Neptunite
Sell Price: 400g Neptunite is a black reflective crystal that takes the shape of a long stone with a pointed, pyramidic tip. It can be found by processing Omni Geodes or Magma Geodes, or by defeating Black Slimes. With the Gemologist perk, it sells for 520g. Like many other minerals, it can also be used to dye clothing if you don’t want to donate it to the museum, or if you’re lucky enough to find more than one!
4. Helvite
Sell Price: 450g Helvite is one of the most expensive minerals in the game, and sells for 585g with the Gemologist perk. It can be found by processing Magma Geodes or Omni Geodes, and is a lovely orange mineral that grows in a triangular looking column. Because of its pretty orange shade, it can be used as orange dye – not too many minerals are orange, so it’s a valuable find even if for that reason alone!
3. Star Shards
Sell Price: 500g Star Shards are objectively one of the coolest looking minerals in the game. They’re pink, and they get their names from the star-like growth of the mineral structure, which has sharp points going every which way. With the Gemologist perk, this neat stone sells for 650g – which is an incredibly good profit. They can be found by processing Magma Geodes and Omni Geodes as well, and can be used as pink dye for clothing items.
2. Diamond
Sell Price: 750g Diamonds are one of the most useful items in the game. They can be found by mining Diamond Nodes, Gem Nodes, Panning, rifling through Garbage Cans, from a Fishing Treasure Chest, and after reaching the bottom of the Mines there is a slim chance that one diamond will be dropped by any Monster. Diamonds are used for:
The Ring of Yoba Making Geode Crushers Fairy Dust In the Fish Pond Quest Plus to Forge Weapons
And diamonds are a loved gift of tons of villagers: Evelyn, Gus, Jodi, Krobus, Marnie, Maru, Penny, and Willie. With the Gemologist perk, one diamond sells for 975 gold, making it the second most profitable gem or mineral in the game.
1. Prismatic Shard
Sell Price: 2,000g Prismatic Shards are probably the most sought after item in Stardew, with the exception of maybe Stardrops. With the Gemologist perk, each Prismatic Shard sells for a whopping 2,600g, which also makes them the most expensive gem in Stardew Valley. They’re rare, but they can be obtained from an Iridium Node, Mystic Stone, Omni Geode, from defeating a Shadow Brute, Shadow Shaman, Mummy, Serpent, or if you’re really lucky, from a Fishing Treasure Chest. Or just like Diamonds, these shards can be dropped by any enemy after reaching the bottom of the Mines. It’s a universally loved gift with the exception of Haley, who hates it. Prismatic Shards can also be used to obtain the Galaxy Sword, to transform children into doves, and to enchant tools and weapons.
